This center is dedicated to safer communities & sustainable development through disaster reduction to avoid the advertise impact of natural hazards and related environment and technology disasters. This was earlier known as the Team for Disaster Prevention & Sustainable development and recognized by the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) CDR conducts research on current Hazards (Natural & Man made) which affects the Sri Lankan society. The findings of the research undertaken by the CDR has presented in many international and Global conferences. It maintains a close relationship with many organizations and groups around the world. Presently CDR engages in Disaster preparedness education programmes for Coastal communities and schools children in Southern Sri Lanka.
